People underestimate smaller dogs because they confuse size with spirit.
A lot of the loudest, most relentless fighters in this world started from disadvantage. Less power. Less protection. Less room to fail. That pressure either breaks something—or sharpens it into survival instinct.
That’s true for people too.
Some individuals move through life like they’ve never had to prove they belong anywhere. Others learned early that if they weren’t alert, resilient, adaptable, or mentally tough, they’d get swallowed alive by the environment around them.
The smaller dog survives because it had to develop awareness before comfort. Instinct before ego.
And honestly, that’s why I’ll never automatically respect something just because it’s bigger, louder, richer, or more established. History keeps showing that underestimated things become dangerous once they stop fearing what’s supposed to intimidate them.
They are good at a lot of life things that humans struggle with. Dogs never second guess themselves the never beg for love they never loose themselves in their owners. They are always who they are 🫶🏼✨
A spray bottle of water helps them figure it out when they fight- it breaks up the fight really fast lol. I love dogs. They’re so unique and they love you like no other. Talk about unconditional love- that’s what they offer their owners. That fighting should have ceased already but, there’s always one who will always try to be leader of the pack. Spray bottle and you get to be it. 🤗❤️😂❤️
My Yoshi was a raging maniac. A genius. Losing her was a best friend lost. Rocky is calm and gentle. He carries a spirit of peace. He came just in time.
Diana and my Bella….they’d be trouble in the same room. She’s a golden and got the temperament of a Doberman. What I do know is that I’m pretty safe with my girl around. Diana sounds kind of the same….❤️
This is such a thoughtful read of it—thank you. I was really trying to let the quieter moments carry the weight without over-explaining, so it means a lot that you felt that tension and connection.
I think I will have to agree with Dorie here Notes, "Diana is piss and fire and will die trying.” is such a great line!
A beautiful tale, or should that be tail, of two dogs 💛
Tail!!! I ❤️ love it. Thanks for reading it. Dogs can teach us so much.
They can! And my two keep me (relatively) sane. Sometimes 😂
Her charging in on three legs anyway made me go a little still... It’s not pretty-brave, it’s just pure stubborn.
Sadly it's the other dog that has 3 legs- Ariel. Diana likes to knock her over 🙄
This is my absolute favorite line, “Diana is piss and fire and will die trying.”

Noticing the behavior of other beings is always a blessing. Lessons are everywhere
I love how clearly you show both of them without making one “better” than the other. I always say I learn more from my dogs than most humans 😏
they definitely teach us a lot. they are so good at just 'being'.

Dogs are different, just like us, unique and inspiring thank you for sharing❤️
It is important to be reminded that those we share our world with - are not toys or robots but living ‘beings’…👏🏻
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was such a beautiful analogy. I really loved where you went with it.
Your story about Zee and Diana is truly touching. It’s amazing how each dog brings something unique to your life, teaching you different lessons.
